Membership requirements
Are You Eligible?
VFW membership requires honorable service or current service and qualifying service connected to a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters.
1. Honorable service
You must have served honorably or be currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The VFW eligibility worksheet describes qualifying prior service as an Honorable discharge or a General discharge under honorable conditions.
2. Qualifying service
Eligibility can be verified by at least one of the following:
- An authorized campaign or expeditionary medal, ribbon, badge, or insignia
- Receipt of Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay
- At least 30 consecutive or 60 nonconsecutive days of service in Korea

Membership Choices
VFW National currently offers annual membership, Life membership, an installment option for Life membership, and Legacy Life membership for current Life members. Current pricing and terms are controlled by VFW National and should be confirmed before payment.
Annual Membership
Annual membership is renewed each membership year. Confirm current Post 7824 dues and payment instructions with the Post before submitting payment.
Life Membership
Life membership eliminates annual renewals. VFW National offers a one-time payment and an installment plan, with cost based on current national terms.
Legacy Life Membership
Current VFW Life members may add a Bronze, Silver, or Gold Legacy Life level that supports the member’s Post, Department, and national organization.
