Veterans of Foreign Wars
A National Legacy Since 1899
Post 7824 carries forward a mission that began when Veterans joined together to secure the care, benefits, and recognition they had earned.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States traces its roots to organizations formed in 1899 by Veterans of the Spanish-American War and the Philippine Insurrection. Those early Veterans organized because many returned home wounded or sick without adequate medical care or pensions.
The VFW became a powerful national voice for Veteran benefits, health care, memorials, education, military families, and legislative advocacy. That work continues through local Posts, Districts, Departments, and the national organization.
- 1.3 million+ VFW and VFW Auxiliary members
- 5,556 VFW Posts worldwide
- 5.4 million Volunteer hours contributed annually
- $43.5 million Donated annually to local community-service projects
- 164,000 Veterans assisted with new VA claims in fiscal year 2025
National figures are from the VFW fact sheet updated December 2025 and primarily reflect fiscal year 2025.
