Privacy at a Glance
Our approach to website information
These principles summarize the detailed policy below.
Collect only what is useful
We process information needed to answer messages, administer programs, review submissions, operate the website, and understand general site use.
Use it for Post purposes
We do not use contact-form or profile-submission information for targeted advertising, and we do not sell or rent it for money.
Provide meaningful choices
You may ask about personal information held by the Post and request correction, deletion, or removal from public display when appropriate.
1. Scope of This Policy
This policy applies to information processed through the VFW Post 7824 website at vfw7824.org , including public pages, website forms, interactive tools, and members-only features operated for the Post.
This policy does not govern independent websites, applications, or services reached through external links. Those services publish their own privacy terms.
2. Information We May Process
Information you choose to provide
- Contact details such as your name, email address, telephone number, subject, and message.
- Suggestions, questions, feedback, volunteer interest, program inquiries, or event-related information.
- Member-profile, memorial, Gold Star Family, Purple Heart recipient, recognition, or historical submissions.
- Service-related information intended for review or publication, such as branch, rank, service years, conflict or operation, awards, biography, remembrance, and living-member or in-memoriam status.
- Photographs, captions, permissions, and other files voluntarily submitted for possible publication.
- Account or access information used by the website platform for members-only sections.
- Information provided when corresponding with the Post by email, telephone, mail, or in person after beginning a website inquiry.
Information processed automatically
The website, hosting platform, security tools, and analytics services may process technical information such as IP address, approximate location derived from an IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, dates and times, interaction events, error logs, and authentication or security logs.
3. Sensitive Information
Unless a form specifically requests information through an appropriate process, do not submit Social Security numbers, complete dates of birth, financial account details, passwords, medical records, detailed health information, DD-214 forms, award orders, full military personnel files, government identification numbers, or other confidential records.
The Post website is not intended to collect consumer health data. If health or other highly sensitive information is needed to assist with a request, an authorized representative should arrange a more appropriate method of communication.
4. How Information Is Used
The Post may use information to:
- Respond to questions and direct messages to the appropriate Post officer, committee, volunteer, or resource.
- Administer Post activities, programs, events, volunteer efforts, outreach, and member services.
- Review, verify, edit, approve, and publish authorized profiles, memorials, photographs, historical materials, or recognition entries.
- Maintain members-only access and protect the security and integrity of the website.
- Measure website use, improve content, diagnose technical problems, and evaluate whether pages are useful.
- Maintain administrative records, document permissions, prevent misuse, and comply with applicable obligations.
- Protect the safety, rights, property, and lawful interests of the Post, its members, visitors, and others.
The Post does not use general contact-form or profile-submission information for targeted advertising.
5. When Information May Be Shared
Information may be disclosed only as reasonably necessary to:
- Authorized Post officers, committee members, employees, or volunteers who need it to perform Post responsibilities.
- The website hosting and content-management provider, email provider, form processor, analytics provider, and other vendors supporting website operations.
- VFW District, Department, National, accredited service officers, government agencies, or community resources when you request or authorize a referral.
- Law enforcement, regulators, courts, or other parties when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect safety, rights, or property.
- A successor organization or responsible custodian if website administration or Post records are transferred.
VFW Post 7824 does not sell or rent contact-form or profile-submission information for money.
6. Information Submitted for Public Display
Some forms invite information, photographs, stories, memorials, recognition, or historical materials for possible publication. Submissions are reviewed and are not intended to be published automatically. Publication may require confirmation of accuracy, Post connection, ownership, and permission.
Information approved for publication becomes publicly available and may be viewed, downloaded, copied, indexed by search engines, archived, or shared by others. The Post can update or remove content under its control, but it cannot guarantee removal from search caches, archives, screenshots, or copies maintained by third parties.
7. Google Analytics, Cookies, and Similar Technologies
The website uses Google Analytics measurement ID G-4TVSJEY38W to understand general website traffic and interaction. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar identifiers and may process information such as page visits, interaction events, device and browser information, referring pages, approximate location, and related technical data.
Review the Google Privacy Policy and Google's explanation of how cookies are used . Visitors may also use the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on .
Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Blocking cookies may affect website or members-only functionality. The website may not respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals because there is no uniform technical standard for those signals.
8. Browser Storage and Interactive Tools
Some interactive pages may use local storage, session storage, or similar browser features to remember settings or progress. For example, the Buddy Check Talk to 10 tracker stores only checked and unchecked progress settings on the visitor's device. The Post does not receive those tracker settings.
You can clear locally stored information through your browser settings. Doing so may reset preferences or interactive progress.
9. Information Retention
The Post retains information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was received, administrative continuity, documentation of permission, security, dispute resolution, records management, or applicable requirements. Retention periods may vary by the type of record.
Public historical, memorial, recognition, meeting, and organizational records may be retained for archival purposes. Service providers may maintain information under their own retention schedules and legal obligations.
10. Information Security
The Post uses reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to its website operations, including restricted access, service-provider controls, spam-prevention measures, and review of public submissions. No website, email system, or electronic transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Do not send highly sensitive information by ordinary website form or unencrypted email. If you believe information submitted through the website has been misused or exposed, contact the webmaster promptly at web@vfw7824.org .
11. Forms, Embedded Content, and External Websites
FormSubmit
Certain website forms may use FormSubmit to process a submission and transmit it by email to an authorized Post address. Information entered in those forms is processed by FormSubmit before being delivered to the Post. Review the FormSubmit Privacy Policy .
Members-only and third-party services
The site may link to or display content from VFW National, the Department of Veterans Affairs, mapping services, social-media platforms, video providers, donation or payment services, event services, and other organizations. When you follow a link, play embedded media, sign in, make a payment, or submit information to another provider, that provider's terms and privacy policy apply.
12. Youth Programs and Children's Information
The website provides information about scholarships, patriotic education, youth contests, and community programs, but general website forms are not intended to collect personal information directly from children under 13.
A parent, guardian, educator, or other authorized adult should review youth-program instructions and use the designated submission process. Do not send a child's date of birth, home address, school records, identification number, or other unnecessary personal information through a general contact form. Youth entries and photographs should be submitted and published only with appropriate authorization.
13. Your Privacy Choices and Requests
You may contact the Post to request:
- Information about personal information you previously submitted and that the Post can reasonably identify.
- Correction of inaccurate contact, profile, recognition, historical, or publication information.
- Deletion of personal information when continued retention is not reasonably necessary.
- Removal or revision of a photograph, profile, memorial, or other material displayed on a Post-controlled webpage.
- Withdrawal from optional Post communications.
The Post may need to verify your identity, authority, or relationship to the information before completing a request. A request may be limited when retention is needed for security, legal, administrative, archival, or documentation purposes.
14. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated when website features, service providers, Post practices, or applicable requirements change. The current version will display its effective date, updated date, and revision number on this page.
