Honoring veterans with dignity, respect, and military tradition while supporting families and serving our community.
Service to Veterans and the Community
Community service is a founding principle of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. VFW members continue a proud tradition of supporting veterans, military families, local organizations, and communities across the nation.
VFW Post 7824 Honor Guard members may support approved public events, patriotic ceremonies, community activities, and eligible veteran memorial services. For military funeral honors, the Post may coordinate with or supplement the official military service detail when requested, authorized, and available.

Ceremonial Services
Services are provided based on personnel availability, scheduling, location, safety requirements, and the needs of the requesting family or organization.
Memorial Support
Coordination and supplemental ceremonial support for eligible veteran funerals or memorial services, working with the family, funeral director, cemetery, and official military funeral honors coordinator.
Color Guard & Presentation of Colors
Color guard participation and presentation of the United States flag and organizational colors for approved patriotic events, public ceremonies, and community observances.
Community Ceremonies
Participation in remembrance ceremonies, veterans events, commemorations, and other approved community programs consistent with Honor Guard duties and Post policy.
Military Funeral & Memorial Support
For an eligible deceased veteran, the family or funeral director should first request official military funeral honors through the appropriate service branch. The official military detail provides the required military honors. VFW Post 7824 may provide supplemental support when properly coordinated and when personnel, training, scheduling, eligibility, safety requirements, and approvals allow.
- A firing party for three rifle volleys when authorized, requested, and available
- A qualified bugler to sound Taps, when coordinated with the official honors detail
- Color guard, pallbearer, or other ceremonial support when authorized and available
- Assistance with flag folding when coordinated with the military detail; the military service representative retains responsibility for the official flag presentation
- Coordination with the family, funeral director, cemetery, and military funeral honors coordinator
Request Honor Guard Services
For a community ceremony, provide the date, start time, location, type of event, requested services, and your contact information. For a funeral or memorial service, also provide the veteran’s full name, branch of service, funeral director or planner, cemetery if known, and the status of the official military funeral honors request.
